LAUSD To Eliminate Use Of 'D' and 'F' Grades

According to Fox 5, LAUSD amongst other school districts in California have decide to eliminate the use of 'D' and 'F' grades. Instead students will be able to do extra work or receive more time to complete an assignment. Instead of earning a 'D' or an 'F' students who fail to complete an assignment will receive an 'Incomplete'. This is apart of a program called competencey- based learning where students assessment is based on mastery of learning instead of how students test. Steven Kellner with California Education Partners says:

“What mastery learning does is really allow students every opportunity to show that they know the material and if they don’t know the material, to get the support they need to be able to demonstrate it.”
