Wesley Schultz of The Lumineers announced on Monday (October 26) that he is releasing a solo album of covers!
The lead singer took to social media to drop the news on the album, titled VIGNETTES, and let fans know it'll be out soon — like this Friday (October 30) soon!
Schultz explained the record is “an album of 10 cover songs written by artists I love, including @springsteen 'My City Of Ruins.'”
Along with his announcement, Schultz shared a short black and white video on Instagram to explain his decision to release a covers album. “Playing other people's songs has been something that I've done since I started learning guitar. It's how I learned how to write songs,” he said.
Additionally, in the video he reveals he covered Bruce Springsteen 20 years ago for his dad and explained why he decided to include the same song on the album two decades later. “I was walking through Denver right after we had Black Lives Matter protests, there's just boarded up windows everywhere, it looks destroyed… it just felt like all over again this song makes sense,” he said.
In the video you can also hear a sneak peek at the cover while images of the recording process play over the song.
Schultz isn't the only Lumineers member releasing a solo album, Drummer Jeremiah Fraites is releasing an instrumental solo record, Piano Piano, early next year.
The Luminers recently lent their song, "Salt and the Sea," to a Partnership to End Addiction campaign and also reunited to play the Save Our Stages Fest.
