Disneyland Honors Late Chadwick Boseman With 'Black Panther' Mural

Chadwick Boseman received an honorable tribute at Disneyland.

A new mural has been unveiled at Disneyland to pay remembrance to the late Black Panther. The illustration, curated by artist Nikkolas Smith, depicts Boseman, who plays the titular superhero in the film, striking the “Wakanda Forever” pose with a young child wearing a hospital gown and a Black Panther mask.

“This one is special. My King Chad tribute is now on a wall on display at Downtown Disney,” Smith wrote of his installation, titled “King Chad,” on Instagram with a series of pictures. “It is a full circle moment for me: my final two projects as a Disney Imagineer last summer were working on the children’s hospital project and the Avengers Campus.”

As fans know, Boseman died last month at the age of 43 following a private four-year battle with colon cancer. Smith's mural is especially sentimental, considering the beloved actor was known to give back to the youth, and often paid visits to children with cancer at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

“To millions of kids, T’Challa was a legend larger than life, and there was no one more worthy to fill those shoes than Chadwick Boseman,” Smith continued. “I’m so thankful to be able to honor Chadwick’s life and purpose in this way. I am grateful to the Disney family for being so supportive of my journey as an artist.”

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Disneyland’s main park in California remains closed, though Downtown Disney is currently open to visitors.
