Jim Carrey Takes Us Behind Mythical New Book ‘Memoirs and Misinformation’

Jim Carrey can now add best-selling author to his resume and his book couldn’t come at a more fitting time. The funnyman Zoomed with Ryan Seacrest on-air on Wednesday, July 22, and detailed his first novel, Memoirs and Misinformation.

“It’s apocrypha,” Jim teased of the book. “It’s basically the same thing that was done with King Arthur and recently — you know, we’ve got nothing but time here — I’m reading the classics and I’m reading Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the Old English version, and I’m realizing, ‘Oh my God, this is another example of what we did with the book.’ We took a real history and we embellished.”

Essentially, Jim added, “we just made a myth out of me.”

The novel, written with Dana Vachon, uses details from the hugely popular actor’s life and career to ultimately tell a fictional tale of apocalypse and rebirth in Hollywood and features a slew of familiar celebs, including Kelsey Grammer, Tom Hanks and more of Carrey’s famous pals.

“The point is the entire book is geared towards freeing you from yourself so in doing that with myself, I’m hopefully through osmosis freeing you from yourself,” Jim teased. “Freeing you from grasping of things and trying to create a character you can drag through life that would be a winner.”

Also included in the book are the tales of the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicolas Cage, and Anthony Hopkins. So have they responded?

“It’s funny; I’m in the process right now," Jim shared. "I’m waiting on several people who have told me they’re sending me letters. Tom Hanks is sending me a letter; Anthony Hopkins is ending me an email of some sort so I don’t know how they’re going to react.”

That said, Jim added, “it’s all done with love."

"There really honestly is no one in this book that I don’t respect as an artist," he shared. "... It was really fun playing with the characters and basically having this band of concerned celebrities fighting for the good of the planet in earth's darkest hour.”
