‘Stuff They Don’t Want You To Know’ Looks At The 5G Coronavirus Conspiracy

Stuff They Don’t Want You To Know hosts Ben Bowlin, Noel Brown, and Matt Frederick are back with a follow-up to their previous episode about coronavirus conspiracy theories, this time focusing on the theories that proclaimed that COVID-19 was a hoax, as well as the one tying COVID symptoms with the effects of radiation poisoning from 5G technology. Some research has indicated that coronavirus cases started to pop up in China right around the time they turned on their 5G networks for the first time. Is there a link? Or is it just a coincidence? Many people thought the virus was a hoax, invented for a variety of reasons. Clearly that’s not the case, but could it perhaps be providing a smokescreen for other bad behavior?

Since their first episode about the coronavirus, cases in the U.S. have surged tenfold. So have the unemployment numbers as people are laid off from non-essential work or lose their jobs in affected industries like events, restaurants, film, and more. This spike in cases caused most people to realize that the pandemic was never an exaggeration or a hoax, but the other theory, that coronavirus was a smokescreen for the governments of the world to pass bad legislation, clamp down on human rights, and perhaps become more authoritarian, “is much more disturbing,” Ben says. The guys point out that with social distancing in effect, they’ve shut down protesting, one of America’s dearly held civil rights. And while four senators were called out for dumping a lot of stocks in January after a briefing on COVID-19 – while still downplaying the infection to the nation – they don’t seem to have gotten into any trouble for this obvious bit of insider trading. Plus, this could be “a fantastic time” to nationalize “key industries like energy, transit, medical manufacturing, even agriculture,” Ben says.

So what about 5G? The story here is that China turned on its first 5G networks in November, and the first coronavirus cases started popping up in December, so some deep thinkers though perhaps this new technology somehow affects us physiologically. This one doesn’t hold much water, either. Ben, Matt, and Noel talk about why, as well as wondering what the future might look like (will we be so averse to human contact that we won’t meet people in person unless for “some ritualistic purpose”?), if this is just the first step to bringing about the Singularity, and what other theories are out there about coronavirus that they’ll have to get into next, on this episode of Stuff They Don’t Want You To Know
