Convicted rapist and disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein was confirmed to have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus via a report from the Niagara Gazette.
According to the report, the 68 year old prisoner is currently being held in isolation at the Wende Correctional Facility in Western New York state. Two inmates at the facility have reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus, with Harvey being one. Officials close to the situation believe it could be possible that he entered the institution already having contracted the virus.
"There is no better breeding ground for this virus than a closed environment such as a correctional facility."
The producer was moved to the facility in Erie County after he was found guilty of third-degree rape and first-degree sexual assault was sentenced to 23 years in a maximum-security prison. Weinstein is now identified as inmate 20B0584 at the facility where about 950 other prisoners are housed. The prison also houses Mark David Chapman, the man who shot and killed John Lennon and David Sweat, who escaped from Clinton Correctional Facility in 2015. Sweat was recaptured after an intense manhunt that lasted for 22-days.
The disgraced Hollywood mogul still faces charges of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sexual penetration by use of restraint and sexual battery by restraint in Los Angeles. If convicted, Weinstein could face an additional 28 years in prison.
