With the party scene being less sophisticated than it is now, Iggy Pop admits to having done some pretty freaky things to get a buzz going. He revealed this and more during a recent appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, during which the Godfather of Punk reminisced on his wilder days from when he played in The Stooges.
Among the bizarre memories he reflected on, the 72-year-old musician remembers the time his tongue once got trapped in an electric outlet and the âharshâ experience of smoking spider webs to get high. âWell it was an electric train transformer,â Iggy said of the outrageous moment, then revealed: âI tried spider webs too. I tried to smoke them. You know youâve got to start somewhere.â
Howâs that for a scary story!
Believe it or not, the âLust for Lifeâ star isnât at all surprised to still have lived through these terrifying situations, and chalked up his survival method to brinksmanship. âMy psychiatrist told me in the â70s, âYou have amazing brinkmanship, you go to a certain place and you know when to pull back,ââ Iggy explained, joking: âI always have and Iâm a very conservative guy in my daily life. I go to bed early.â
