High School Students Accused Of Hacking Wi-Fi To Get Out Of Tests

A pair of 14-year-old freshmen from Secaucus High School in New Jersey were arrested after authorities say they managed to shut down the school's Wi-Fi system so they wouldn't have to take tests.

The boys allegedly used an app or computer program to crash the network numerous times throughout the month of March. They reportedly asked other students what days they should shut down the system.

According to the Jersey Journal, most of the school's curriculum is internet-based, making it nearly impossible for students to complete their daily assignments or take tests without internet access.

“One day we were supposed to be doing work on our Chromebooks, but we had no activity whatsoever to do in class because the Wi-Fi shutdown,” a tenth-grader told the paper. “It interrupted the whole class, unfortunately.”

The boys, who have not been identified because of their age, are facing charges of computer criminal activity and conspiracy to commit computer criminal activity.
