The Happiest Place on Earth just got a little bit sweeter — they just announced that Salt & Straw Ice Cream is coming to Downtown Disney!
The ice cream company is run by cousins Tyler and Kim Malek, and they are known for creating flavors that are completely out of the ordinary. Salt & Straw is unlike any ice cream you have had before!
This new location in Anaheim marks the first time that Salt & Straw has opened a store in Orange County.
With flavors such as Honey Lavender, Avocado and Oaxacan Chocolate Fudge, Black Olive Brittle and Goat Cheese and Freckled Woodblock Chocolate in their Los Angeles locations, they have a very unique collection of tastes.
While some of these may sound a bit odd, you have to try them! Who knows — maybe an avocado flavored ice cream will be your new favorite.
They also put their own spin on more generic flavors such as Sea Salt and Caramel, Chocolate Gooey Brownie and Roasted Strawberry Coconut if you are looking for a more "safe" option. Their flavors vary from location to location!
Have you tried San Francisco's Rose & Lavinder Patels by Sofia at Rosa Parks Elementary? This floral flavor is actually two sherbets swirled together—our ice cream spinners make this happen by first spinning one flavor (in this case a rose petal and lime sherbet) and placing it in the freezer. They then spin the next flavor (a lavender and vanilla sherbet) and hand-swirl in the rose sherbet as the lavender sherbet comes out of the machine!
According to the Disney Parks Blog, "every ice cream flavor is handmade in small batches using the best local, organic and sustainable ingredients. Special offerings will be available seasonally, showcasing co-founder and head ice cream maker Tyler’s passion for cultivating genuine partnerships with local farmers and artisans." YUM!
The addition of Salt & Straw is just one of the many changes coming to the shopping center located right outside Disneyland. Other changes to Downtown Disney include the addition of a Ballast Point Brewing Company, Splitsville Luxury Lanes, Disney Home and Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer.
If you are looking to have a few drinks, go bowling or decorate your home in all Disney-themed items, the new version of Downtown Disney is the place to be.
Many other changes are set to be made including the removal of some stores and restaurants that are currently in Downtown Disney.
All of these changes come on the heels of Disneyland starting Pixar Fest a few weeks ago, and continuing to work on the new Pixar Pier — set to open in Disney's California Adventure park on June 23. There is a lot happening in Anaheim lately!
While it may be sad to see some places like Rainforest Cafe and ESPN Zone go, it's always good to make room for new additions! We are definitely okay with Disney adding Salt & Straw.
