What would you have done as a high schooler if you walked into the restroom to find all the mirrors - the entire walls and stalls, too, in fact - covered in affirmations.
Words like "you are beautiful," "you are enough," and "you are worth it" greet you at the door?
Well for students at Laguna Hills High School, that was their reality a few weeks ago when Sabrina Astle, who's only 17 by the way, decided she wanted to "make a difference" and used the schools Kindness Club to do so.
First of all, having a "Kindness Club" on campus sounds like something every high school needs to put in place right now.
I know most of us can remember back to the high school years and as much as we may look back now and think about how silly some of it was, when you're 14-18, it's not a joke. High school is hard. High schoolers are hard on each other and hard on themselves, a Kindness Club sounds like a pretty awesome solution.
As far as the affirmations in the bathrooms? Genius.
During the week of March 23rd, the school was hosting a weeklong event to encourage unity among students and Sabrina, along with the rest of the Kindness Club, decided this was a perfect time to implement the posters.
The school's activities director even said Sabrina had made it her goal for the whole semester to spread positive messages around campus - not just during the unity week.
I don't know about you, but I don't know if I was this self aware and forward thinking when I was in high school. And for that I have to give some MAJOR props to Sabrina and the Kindness Club.
Let's all take these words of affirmation and remind ourselves to do something nice for others this weekend.
