Remembering Selena On the 22nd Anniversary Of Her Passing

Source: Youtube

I still remember the day it happened.  I remember watching the new all night with my mom in disbelief. Selena was gone.   We are all sad, shocked, in tears over the tremendous loss the Latin Community had just suffered.  How could Selena be gone?? She was so young, so talented, so beautiful and full of light.  She wasn't just an amazing performer, she was also an inspiration to the Latino community.  Because of her we believed that anything was possible. That there was a place for people like us in music, tv, the world.

Growing up I wanted to be her. I learned all her songs, studied her dance moves.  If it was up to me I would've grown up to be a performer just like her.  Instead, watching her gave me the courage to pursue my own dreams to be in radio.  I don't know if she ever knew just how much  her music and  her accomplishments meant to so many of us.

Even though years continue to pass, her music and memory will continue to live on. Today marks 22 years since we lost a legend, and hearing her music still ignites a passion in my soul. It reminds me how lucky I am to have grown up with her music and it makes me proud to be a Latina, just like Selena.  #RIPSelena
