It's pretty crazy to think that growing up, a lot of us didn't have social media. It's such a normal part of my life now that I almost forget about a time when I wasn't tweeting, gramming or snapping.
But the Backstreet Boys? They are SO GLAD they didn't have social media while they were at the highest points in their career.
Really social media is a HUGE part of why people know everything about celebrities these days. So before social media, things were reaaaally different.
Nick Carter is thankful because of some stuff he and bandmate AJ would never have gotten away with:
"There is some s**t that AJ [McLean] and I both did that I’m really glad that social media wasn’t around for. Because Justin Bieber couldn’t hold a candle to what we did.”
(You know, because Bieber tends to get in trouble on social media).
As for what AJ had to say about all that?
"We would have been like TMZ’s saving grace... Just anything from me being drunk or irate at a club. Or me walking naked down the hallway in a hotel for no apparent reason…just random stuff that never really got out.”
Um. Fans would have both loved and hated if those things got out. But it's probably best we didn't have the power of social media until more recently.
