I recently attended the 16th annual Design Care celebration which is an amazing event that combines fashion and philanthropy. Founded by Actress Holly Robinson Pete and former NFL quarterback Rodney Pete, The Hollyrod Foundation offers help to individuals and families with autism and Parkinson’s disease. Being featured that night was 29 year old couture fashion designer Michael Costello. You know that gorgeous dress Beyoncé wore to the Grammys? Yea that little gem was by Michael.
I first witnessed Michael’s amazing-ness at Style Fashion week LA and instantly fell in love! His designs blow me away I immediately become hypnotized as each model walked down the runway. I had the wonderful opportunity to interview Michael at Design Care 2014 to get a little taste of what we’d expect to see. An incredibly talented person with a good heart, he told me how much it meant to him to be a part of this event and support the Hollyrod Foundation. When I asked him about his collection he responded with, “She’s a magical fairy who lives in the forest but yet she went through a couple of break-ups and somewhere along the path through the magical forest she fell. She met this wonderful man who broke her heart so she went back home and burned down the forest.” After that response I couldn’t wait to watch the show.
Michael’s collection featured brocades and many one of a kind fabrics imported from Italy. The show was an incredible sight to see, I couldn’t take my eyes off the dresses as I watched the story of the magical fairy unfold. I couldn’t believe I got to see the collection as it will be shown at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week! Congratulations to Michael Costello on such a major accomplishment. Be sure to look out for his show this September.
