Being married could save your life.
A new study has found that cancer patients who are married are 20 percent more likely to survive the disease than single people. The study has just been published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, and it also shows married cancer patients are more likely to have been diagnosed before the cancer spread and are more likely to get proper treatment.
The authors of the study say partnership in marriage is a factor in practical ways, like having someone make sure the patient gets to a doctor, and inspiring patients to stay alive for their families.
