NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Police are investigating the theft of more than $15,000 worth of iPads from an Orange County elementary school.

The Orange County Register reports staff arriving at Harbor View Elementary in Corona del Mar Monday morning found the windows of two classrooms smashed.

Nearly 40 iPads inside were missing from their charging stations.

Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella says the burglary likely occurred sometime late Sunday or early Monday.

Investigators have not identified a suspect or suspects.

The tablets were part of a project coordinated by the organization Harbor View Dads. The organization's president, Nik Froehlich, says the iPads were insured.

Froehlich says the iPads were locked away in a cabinet and it appeared the lock was broken with a bolt cutter.
